It's never too late

There's no escape from ageing.  It comes to us all eventually.  But just because we are getting older, there's no reason to give up on our dreams or aspirations.  For example:
  • Nelson Mandela  became President of South Africa at the age of 76
  • Colonel Sanders' restaurant failed when he was 65. He didn't give up though - he went out and visited potential franchisees and at the age of 74 sold Kentucky Fried Chicken for $2 million
  • My Mum, Lucy Thomas, (pictured here) went to university after she retired and got her degree in her mid sixties.
  • My sister, Wanda (also pictured), retrained as a fitness instructor in her 50s after many years in corporate management, and qualified as a Reiki Master too.  She is still teaching regular Zumba classes in the community, and seated exercise at several care homes.
  • Ernestine Shepherd, now 84, started training as a competitive body builder at the age of 56 and in March of 2010, at the age of 74 she was formally given the title of World’s Oldest Performing Female Bodybuilder (by Guinness World Records).
  • Tao Porchon Lynch was still teaching yoga at the age of 100.  She passed away in February 2020 aged 101 and was an absolute inspiration.
  • And not forgetting the late Captain Tom Moore, who On 6 April 2020, at the age of 99,  began to walk one hundred lengths of his garden in aid of  NHS Charities Together. with the goal of raising £1,000 by his 100th birthday.  By the time the campaign closed on his birthday 24 days later, he had raised almost £33 million.  On 17 July 2020, he was knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle.

These are just a few I've come up with but there are many, many more people out there who lead full, interesting and productive lives and totally embrace ageing.

Please feel free to add your own stories in the comments section below.

I will shortly be launching a series of Embracing Ageing workshops and on-line events where we will explore diet and exercise, mental health, relationships, work, retirement, being single, money matters, coping with bereavement and more.  In the meantime, why not join my free on-line group where you can meet like-minded people for mutual support and conversation so we can start looking forward to our later years instead of dreading them?

If you wish, you can message me privately via my contact page - promise not to sell or pass on your details to anyone else.

Here's to Embracing Ageing!
